Pulau Kapas | Mary Moves To China Posted: 24 Aug 2013 10:28 PM PDT If laziness is a destination it'd be Pulau Kapas. Located less than five miles off shore this decidedly undeveloped island is a destination we chose with the intention of doing nothing. Pulau Kapas means Cotton Island, named so for the stretches of white sand beaches along its western shore which is where we spent most of our week on the island. We snorkeled (which I still don't think is very fun) and hiked a bit through the island's interior, but mostly I wiled away the days reading Michael Crichton on the beach, snacking on roti and shelling after the tide went out. The only thing I didn't enjoy on the island was the fact that we could see mainland; developed, populous, polluting mainland. Even though I don't especially like the ocean I do prefer my beach views to be uninterruptedly aquatic. But it would take more than a view to ruin our relaxing week on Kapas where the most difficult decision we had to make was which beach to visit. Unfortunately the red jellyfish came to the island not long after we did. They stuck to the cooler waters far off shore and we only saw them on a kayak trip but that was quite enough for me. We decided to head up the coast to warmer waters. For more photos from Pulau Kapas visit Josh's photo blog: When in Asia |
