| perantau.org – Pas: We will implement hudud if we win election Posted: 13 May 2012 10:20 PM PDT NEW ALLIES: Party leader hints at changing partners in favour of hudud TERENGGANU: PAS Dewan Ulama chief Datuk Harun Taib said yesterday hudud implementation and Federal Constitution amendment would be Pas' priorities even if it meant changing its political partners. "We will implemernt hudud and amend the Constitution even if (it is) not with the current partners we have in Pakatan…may be there will be other pacts (Pakatan) that will lend us their support. "We are a party that is championing Islam. Of course we will implement what is required by Islam. Pas will always be behind Hadi (Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang) and the party's struggle to uphold Islam in the government and administration of the country." Karpal said in a statement on Thursday that of late Hadi had been making statements with the sole intention of withdrawing them later. The Bukit Gelugor member of parliament was referring to the Pas chief's remarks on the implementation of hudud and the intention of incorporating Islam as Addin (way of life) in the Federal Constitution should Pakatan win the next general election. Karpal said hudud could not be implemented as it was against the Constitution and the Constitution should not be changed as it had already been stated that Islam was the official religion of Malaysia. Harun added that hudud implementation would be inevitable if Pas secured more seats than its Pakatan Rakyat partners. Hadi's statement on hudud implementation and amending the Constitution were done in his capacity as Pas president and they reflected Pas' aspirations if the opposition wins the general election," he said yesterday. "I think whether it is against the Constitution or not is just his (Karpal's) personal opinion and comment as a lawyer. "As a Pas member, I am fully behind Hadi." He said the basis of Hadi's statement lay in the seat allocation and Pas' strength within Pakatan Rakyat. "If we have enough majority (of seats), if Pas is stronger than our allies, we will implement (hudud and the amendment to the Constitution)."
